Photo Shoot with A Timeless Collection - Pt 1

Wow, have I been slacking on posting here! I can’t believe I went the whole month of May without a single blog post. If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen my posts for the Vintage Fashion Challenge, all but the last week that is. Ah well… Anyway, I hope these next couple of posts will make up for my blog silence. I have SOOOO much to share!! Warning, LOTS OF PHOTOS AHEAD!! :)

Are you ready?? (Please note, all photos in this post are by A Timeless Collection. I have been given permission to share them on my blog and social media pages. Please DO NOT COPY without permission. Thank you!)

Today’s post is mostly photos!! Over the Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I had the opportunity to work with Joani of A TimelessCollection. (Seriously, go check out her work. She is on Instagram too!!) Joani has been looking for reenactors and vintage lovers for a long time now to help out with her photo project. This kind of photo shoot is something we have wanted to do for a while now and everything finally fell into place!

Image may contain: 2 people, outdoor, text and closeup

The three of us met up in a little town in Vermont for these photos. The first shots were taken at a historic railroad station. The freight train still uses that route and during the summer and early fall there the Green Mountain Rail Road offers scenic train rides.

Cori and I both wore vintage, of course, with a few repro items for good measure! His uniform is an original WWII era uniform with a Sea Bees patch. The Sea Bees are the construction battalion of the U.S. Navy and are still in operation today. These are the guys responsible for building air stripes and bases in the Pacific as well as other structures during WWII. (you can read more about the Fighting Sea Bees here.) Cori’s grandfather served in the Sea Bees during the Korean War, so in a way these photos help honor his service.

Waiting for the train and read Life Magazine.
I wore a new to me suit, purchased from Lauren of Wearing History fame during one of her closet clean outs. The skirt was much too small at first, and even after alterations is still a bit snug, but I’m in love with this suit!

There will be more photos to share from this shoot and we are already brainstorming ideas for future sessions. Check out more of A Timeless Collection's work on Instagram.

MAAM WWII Weekend 2017 - Pt1

Well, here I am finally sitting down to write a proper blog post! I'm going to make this a two part because I have so many photos I want to share. But I don't think any of you will mind. ;)

I've blogged a few times in the past about attending the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's annual WWII Weekend. (You can read all my past posts here!) Seriously! If you have a chance to attend, do so! This three day event has something to offer everyone. It's part air show, part reenactment and thoroughly educational! This year was by far the most fun for me. Over my many years of reenacting, I've come to know some great people and many of them I only get to see once or twice a year at events like this. This year was extra fun because I hand to chance to spend time with Emileigh of Flashback Summer! We've been online friends for a few years now, having met through our blogs and chatting more online. Hooray for finally getting to meet people in real life! lol! Emileigh had never attended a reenactment so I invited her to come a camp with my group. She fit in perfectly!

So here's our humble little home for the weekend. My husband and I normally camp when we attend 18th century events but our tent and gear for that time period wont work for 1940s/WWII style  camping. So we invested in a small Army wall tent a few years back. Best thing ever! We even set up a wash station behind the tent so Emileigh and I had some place to sit and do our hair and makeup in the mornings.

This is my favorite arts-y shot from the weekend!

A good amount of our time was spent exploring the different military camps, homefront display, French village, shopping at the vendors and visiting with friends.

I'm slowly building my collecting of WWII WAVES uniforms and with the help of Sara of @iliveinmylab/wwiiwaves, I was able to track down a set of whites. The whites are the summer uniform for the WAVES, and let me tell you, SO COMFORTABLE!! They could use another soak before I wear them to my next event but over all I'm super happy with them. I also need to add a white cover for my purse. It's pretty interesting to note that the same black leather purse is used with both the summer and winter uniforms. The only change is to remove the strap and add the white cover when worn with the whites. Sara is going to help me with that as well. Oddly, the true color of the uniform is more of an off white or egg shell even though they are worn with a bright white blouse.

I loaned my set of blues to Emileigh to wear to the hanger dance Saturday night. She totally caught the reenacting bug because she asked me to help her pick out a uniform when we hit the vendors the next day!! We had a great time dancing and visiting with friends.

I have some additional photos from around camp that I will save for another post. In the mean time, hope over to Emileigh's blog and check out her post about the event.

The Vintage Fashion Challenge

Hello all! No I haven't totally disappeared from the blogger world, I have just been slacking when it comes to my blog this year. There are a variety of reasons but I won't get into them now. I have been a bit more active on Instagram as some of you may have seen. This is due largely to some awesome ladies in the blogging/vintage world. Sara, Carla and Jenny created the Vintage Fashion Challenge and I decided to play along.

I'm sharing just a few of my posts from the challenge, to see more hop on over to my Instagram page.

I have several exciting posts planned for June (with TONS of photos!!!) so stay tuned as I dive back into blogging!!

Another Enchanting Rose Teacup Exchange

I'm very excited to have participated in another teacup exchange hosted by Stephanie of the blog The Enchanting Rose. Stephanie has hosted this exchange many times (10 so far!), and this was my second time participating. (You can read about the last exchange here.)

Each person taking part in the teacup and/or mug exchange fills out a quick questioner with some basic info in order for Stephanie to pair us up. Along with our teacup, or mug, we were asked to include a friendly note, tea or coffee and a little something extra. The idea of the exchange is the opportunity to connect with like-minded people and, hopefully, create new friendships. I like that in organizing the exchange, Stephanie made sure that we each sent and received packages from different people. More ways to connect with different people!

The arrival of my teacup package could not have been timed more perfectly. I had recently learned that a very dear friend, someone I had been incredibly close to for years, had died from cancer. The real kicker was that because we had not talked for several years, I had no idea he was even sick. The news came as an absolute shock and the next few days were a roller coaster of emotions. Daniel, or Danny as I knew him, and I were best friends growing up and later high school/college sweethearts. We went our separate ways but his friendship is something I'll always treasure. Today marks a month since he passed. :( Needless to say the arrival of a box full of tea and dark chocolate was just the thing I needed that particular day. The teacup is so pretty too, don't you think?

Thank you Hana for your wonderful teacup, tea and chocolate! Your gifts and lovely note helped brighten my day!

I don't often share this kind of thing outside my personal FB page but a few people have asked if there is anything they can do. For those that might be interested, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help my friend's family. Danny was only 35 when he passed, he was a disabled military veteran and he leaves behind his wife and a little girl. For anyone who has dealt with the loss of a loved one or is currently going through a serious illness, not having to worry about small things like a buying week's worth of groceries can be a big relief. I realize many people are not in a position to donate, or many feel weird about giving money to someone you don't know and I totally understand. However if you are able and willing, any amount would be a great help. Even if you are not is a position to donate I know that sharing the page would be greatly appreciated as well.

What's On My Sewing Table and More Snow

I have been a very lazy blogger lately. But I promise I have been working on projects! So far this year I have made two pairs of pants for myself, and could really use at least one or two more pairs. I don't have any good outfit photos right now but here are a couple detail shots. These are actually pajama pants but I don't care, they are so comfortable!

I also made a third pair of pants with a matching bolero jacket for a friend. I'm really happy with how that set turned out. I used leftover fabric for the facing and for the pockets!

I have been making some good progress on my pile of UFOs! This green bolero is the third one I had made using the pattern and I absolutely love it. You can see my first one in this post. I plan to make the dress at some point this year too.

If you follow me on Instagram, or on my personal FB page, then you have seen all the snow and animal photos. And we are getting more snow now!! (12 inches and counting!!) Back in February I spent a week farm sitting for my sister. It was a nice change from working in the office!

We did have some nice weather, including the 60 degree day I went snowshoeing, (you can check out the little video I post to my YouTube channel) but now it's back to shoveling!! Had to believe that the official start of spring is only a few days away!
